Q. I graduate in May with a Degree in Poltical Science. How do I start a political consulting business servicing Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecitcut and New York? What requirements? Licensing? Certifications, etc? Do I need?

You can do business registration, but political consultant is typically not one of the occupations that require a license to operate unlike daycare operators, contractors or cosmetologists Where are you based? You can go to your local county clerk's office and register your business. File a DBA or doing business as or fictitious name if you will be using a business name other than your given name. You can check with them the requirements needed to start the business. Once you have your DBA, you can bring your business registration forms to the bank so you can open a business bank account under your business name. What is the corrective action if excess salary is paid by consulting company?
Q. What corrective action is needed if someone was paid excess salary by a consulting company and said person has also filed taxes with the W2 received, without noticing the error. Does the person file for an ammended tax return for the prior year or does this need to be done for next tax year? If excess is reclaimed by consulting company, what happens to taxes already paid and to social security taxes already paid? Has anyone faced this situation of reporting Gross Amount in a year and returning money and having to report lesser Gross for past year via ammended tax returns?

A. They can do it for the next tax year. If excess taxes are paid then they file amended returns to get them back.
